Got an email confirming that study sections are back on! Not sure what this means for many grants where we’ve watched the expiration dates change, but I’m happy to hear some things are moving forward again.

Study sections are not public facing, so there was no need to cancel them under the communication freeze EO. Some ppl think they were stopped to make fuss & to make Trump look bad. Others think it’s because they didn’t know how to interpret new grant giving restrictions related to affirm action..
Communication from the Acting Director of the NIH (appointed by Trump) directed that study sections should be paused until further guidance on February 1st, so this statement does not seem to be rooted in fact. His statement was public in case you want to check it out.
I’m aware. I pointed out the idea that it was done to spite Trump does not fit with the facts, which include that his appointees were THE ones who shut and kept it down. I’m basing my comments on actual information from the NIH, both public and private.
I only got an email confirming that my study section was back on and would be rescheduled soon (was missed last week). But I am hearing from others that sections are now proceeding.
