re: “deal” I once saw several people on headyversion agree that the later the “deal” the better, like into the 90s even, which is a wild assertion given how good ‘72 “deal” gets, but I’m listening to 5/26/93 now and the big solo is lunar stuff

early '70's: best groove
late 70's: best halfway solo
late 80's, early 90's: final solo is unfathomably rad
what good fortune to have so many to choose from!
I don't think he ever topped the one from 90 on the gray JGB self titled live album. Garcia picked those tracks himself. He builds up to the classic long ascending run but then drives it home with powerful low chords, really killer rock n roll. No doubt the song stayed good very late in the game tho
Deal is a song that did not often suffer. Come the latter years Jerry played it nearly every JGB show and then kept it in regular rotation with the Dead. He just loved to rip it up.
Maaan your Dead recommendations do not miss. Love these mid-90s shows when Jerry dials it in. Gonna ride out the rest of S2 now for my morning listening.

The driving, uptempo, organ-heavy, early Brent versions just crush
