not running, but in a similar vein, last fall i was roller skating 4+mi on the riverside trails pretty much every weekend, till it started getting too cold/windy for me. can't wait to start getting out there again soon, it's one of my favorite things in the world
Trying to get back up to 7 miles. I can do it physically but it is difficult to find the time. I’m 48, a single mom, work full time and am a part time student. I’m determined because I love it!
In the last few months I went from not running at all, to being able to jog for a full hour straight. It has been incredible, and this is the best I've ever felt.
I feel you so much. when you get to that hour, there's nothing like it. please do your strength training, my stubbornness eventually waylaid me but now I'm on the right track
Absolutely. I've been doing stuff like sit-ups and real basic yoga stretches on my non-run days and have been considering starting basic weight training.
This is me exactly. I’m working my way back up doing strength training really for the first time ever with guidance from physiotherapist. Hoping to get back out running soon. Your post is encouraging. Thanks.
Best advice I ever got for building up my endurance base: EVERYTHING COUNTS. Treadmill, elliptical, walking, jumprope, swimming, crossfit, swinging your kids around--if you can do it and work up a sweat, it contributes.
100%. I’ve been recovering from various surgeries and decided whatever I can do counts. Walking, then walking with a weighted vest, rush veeeeery slow “running”. Just keep doing something.
I’m working my way back into marathon shape after taking a year off with the birth of my daughter, and a lot of days a treadmill run during her nap is the best option. It feels the same physically! Psychologically, it’s a different experience, but watching movies while running has been cool.
my problem - what led to my injuries and kept me off the road most of last year - is that I just ran. no strength training, no cross training. now I'm doing weights & elliptical twice a week. I'm off to a very satisfying start this year and it feels amazing
I always thought I just had bad knees, but the game changer for me was getting a running watch, and realizing my default pace had been a medium-intensity run. I know I should be weight training too, but old man pace has helped me a lot.
I started a few weeks ago! Went from marathon shape to completely sedentary for a decade after a couple of injuries. I already am feeling better physically
I'm struggling with the same. I used to knock off ten miles at a 7:30 pace and now it's hard for me to face the fact that I can't and might never. Mostly, I feel like I'm looking up at a mountain and I'm not sure that I can climb it.
yeah I went thirty seconds long at the end yesterday and the whole time I'm like STICK TO THE SCRIPT STICK TO THE SCRIPT OBEY YOUR COACH but God it feels good to be out there, so good.

.......okay honestly, I just need someone to tell me I should run wherever I can and stop putting it off. Probably.
...and fine okay, regular walks and runs now scheduled.
Okay. Leaf taken from you. Running again, but also maybe get back to actual all around care.
