Concerto for Orchestra is so fun.

Last year, the great violist Tabea Zimmermann released this recording of the Viola Concerto with Frankfurt and it’s probably my favorite ever recording of this challenging work. Unfinished at the time of his death, not a perfect piece, but moments of greatness.

Just heard the Baltimore Symphony play Bartok's 3rd piano concerto on Sunday with a fantastic soloist - amazing sounds. *And* they also did the concerto for orchestra in November. I feel so lucky :)

Check out the Cincinnati Symphony with Paavo Järvi doing a Concerto for Orchestra double-header. Lutosławski was not just one of Poland's greatest composers but also a hero of Solidarity.

Sadly, the recordings don’t do really do them justice, but the Cleveland Orchestra under Dohnányi was spectacular at Bartók. They were at the level of Reiner & CSO.

Listened to the same recording this morning, it has so much personality! The Game of Pairs movement has as much orchestration as something like Peter and the Wolf.
