One of the most infamous unsolved murders in American history, the brutal killing of Elizabeth Short, known as the Black Dahlia, occurred on January the 15th 1947, in Los Angeles, California. Short's body was found mutilated and bisected in a vacant lot, and the case remains unsolved to this day.
