As a History major, I think it is one the best first hand accounts of the last days of the Third Reich. It was based on “Until the Final Hour” by Traudl Junge , his private secretary and “Inside Hitler's Bunker” by German historian Joachim Fest. Both excellent books!
The actor Bruno Ganz prepared intensively for his role: he studied real audio recordings of Hitler, especially the secret Finland recording from 1942, to imitate his speaking style and developed the famous trembling hand that hints at Hitler's possible Parkinson's disease.

From an Angel in Wings of Desire to the Devil in Downfall. Bruno Ganz had range. (Seriously, a terrific movie. Can’t imagine how hard it was to play that role)
