Here in Montevideo, Uruguay, people love donuts, but they put up with real dry shitty ones made by a company called Pagnifique. The only good ones are from Donut City (I know, English name, weird) and they're amazing. They also cost an arm and a leg.
One thing that I see as a positive of being raised Southern was being treated to Kristy Kreme and Shipley’s so I didn’t embrace the frozen, trash doughnuts of Dunkin.
A reason why Dunkin is good is because in Quebec, you can call them Les Beignes Dunkin and put the stress on the second syllable, and that's just a phrase worth saying.
I do miss their donut with powdered sugar outside & chocolate filling. It was my go to messy calorie bomb. Then again I’m super old fashioned—I also like the butternut donut.
One of my post-college jobs was EMT. One of my coworkers had the uncanny ability to give directions throughout the greater Boston area using only Dunkin stores as reference points (e.g., "take the second right after the third Dunkin Donuts")
I remember Winchells is that still a thing? And how about a nod to so many first gen immigrants and entrepreneurs getting up to make a donut and coffee possible?
When I was a kid my dad used to take me to Dunkin in Atlanta every morning on the way to day care until one day a fist fight broke out and then we didn't go anymore. I was very sad about that.
