This is my first flower of the year. I'd pinch them out normally, but this is an experiment - seeds from pods picked off the ground in a public park. It's either Zimbabwe Black or Pixie Lights - I took a pod from each, but all plants look the same. Can anybody tell? 🌶️🌱 - ThreadSky

Its a beautiful bloom! If you take a tiny paintbrush you can pretend you're a bee 🐝 and help it pollinate 😂🤣

I'm tempted, but it's still cold here, especially on that back-bedroom windowsill. In my (limited!) experience, peppers pollinate themselves, and if they make their mind up to do so early, it works, and if they don't, no amount of cajoling will help. Stay tuned though, I don't think it'll be long 🙂

Ah, I should explain - we took a visit to a museum's gardens on a damp November morning, and they had dead chillies in the borders. Sad I didn't see them in full swing, I grabbed a couple of pods off the soil, then planted the seeds SUPER early to see if they were viable.

I’ve got spares for many of mine and it’s going to be very hard to give them up too. Thinking I may try trimming the tops of the spares, at some point when they’re bigger, to see if they bush out more than grow tall.

Experimenting is a very good use of too many plants. I don't want to sound like Mengele or anything, but it's a rare opportunity if you have enough spares.

Thanks - my kid *really* wanted it to be pixie lights, but I'll buy him some next year. Or even this - it's still early. He also likes purple, and I've got Buena mulata waiting in the wings.
