2/5 On May 29, 1934, Felix Polak married Getrud de Jonge. They had 2 children. Felix was a teacher in Physical Education and known for his friendly interactions and pleasant lessons. Later, when teaching was made impossible for him by the Germans, he worked at the Jewish lycea in Arnhem & Den Bosch.

3/5 Johan's brother Marcel was born in 1939. According to General Rauter's orders, all Jews in North Brabant had to report to Vught before April 10, 1943. Attempts by friends to have Felix Polak placed on the so-called Van Dam list, in order to obtain an exemption from transport, failed.

4/5 Gertrud, Johan and Marcel were sent to Westerbork on the children's transport on June 6, 1943, while Felix stayed behind in Vught.
They stayed in the camp for several weeks and were deported on June 29, 1943. They were immediately murdered upon arrival in Sobibor on July 2, 1943.

5/5 Felix never saw his wife and children again. On the day of the murder of his family, he arrived in Westerbork from camp Vught. His deportation to Sobibor followed on July 6, 1943. He was murdered upon arrival on July 9, 1943.
