Where would I put it?

The internal equipment is pretty sizeable, and my house is pretty small. My boiler is wall mounted and really pretty tidy.

I've seen some shocking looking heat pump (and radiator) installations on twitter etc.

focusing on heatpumps diverts attention from the more pressing and fruitful need to insulate them better though; heatpumps sized for inadequately-insulated homes are a very wrong direction.

Ok but the market isn’t ready. My elderly parents got one installed in November. The installation company were crap. It didn’t work, they had no heating for two months over December and Jan and it isn’t appropriate for the size of their house

That's not the market. That's the skills shortage, and the industry being underdeveloped in this country. And that's precisely why the Conservatives are to blame. It needed strategic investment to ensure there were accredited companies doing reliable work.

Could be a combination of insulation and renewable energy and heat pumps. Gives you wiggle room for homes where a heat pump is impractical to fit and there's going to be a lot of those.

Flats are another issue. Could be scope for developing communal heating policy (which exists in mainland Europe).
