The thing about liberalism is that it is rooted in and routed through a narrative of US history that is wholly phantasmic. This country set up torture archipelagos all over the world. It funded and armed death squads from East Timor to El Salvador. Trump is the telos of a long trajectory.

America is over. There is no coming back from this.
If we're lucky maybe we claw back some small-l liberalism for our daily lives. But even that might be too much to hope for.
