DOGE has announced 7,000 staff cuts, but this is conservative because the Trump administration is paying people to resign ("not to work") & creating a toxic & uncertain situation for those who stay. 3/n

These are indiscriminate cuts, affecting all agency functions and staff--from field offices, to cybersecurity experts, to career employees with a unique understanding of the layers of software applications (not just COBOL code!) that determine eligibility, administer payments, and detect fraud. 4/n

Astrue: Former Acting Commissioner Michelle King put Leland Dudek on administrative leave for breaching protocols to enable DOGE, and now he's running the agency. 5/n

Astrue: Staff leaving aren't people who can just be replaced by contractors. Even contractors I (reluctantly) hired when I was commissioner worked there for years and had passes. 7/n
