guys like this are why i can't understand people who are bored by the study of history. there's nothing more fascinating than meeting Weird Guys of Yore
I'm reading a biography of JP Morgan, who would leave his family for months in the name of self-care and wanted to quit his job every three years because he hated his coworkers. Our titan of finance was basically a TikToker
Exactly, like when school teaches history with a weird sort of reverence, it owns finding out people back then were also weird little horny freaks who did things like lose a fight to a statue so badly that it makes the locals throw said statue in the sea as punishment for murder
History is cool as cool gets, but very often it is boringly taught.
I remember being in class with kids who foundered on trying to pronounce Crédit Mobilier, when the important thing about it wasn't what it was called, but how insiders were using it to rob the taxpayers through fraud and corruption.
went to paris as a fifth grader and learned so much about franklin there lol. like 200 and change years later and people are still like “get a load of this guy”
I totally get it, when we're exposed to history In school they talk about events, not weird guys, most ppl have no idea guys like this exist, they think history is a series of events, not a series of weird guys
