Alignment is the key for me, it brings most of the economic benefit without the political fall out of a rejoin process. Rejoin then becomes inevitable as the benefits flow with the promise of more to come.

The issue you have is the same as Brexit. What do you mean #RejoinEU. If you want same as pre-2016 you may join Gove and Boris in the sunlit uplands and play cards. Custom union be best you can get within 10years, full membership with euro currency be next step. Major issue is do EU want or need us?

Labour had to rule out moving significantly closer to the EU or the last EU would have been about Brexit again.

What irks me as much is what appears an almost blind refusal to reference the fact it was a huge bollock drop,& just how impactful on top of other global issues it has been. I'd like to see significant realignment with the EU in many areas,especially trade, but it feels as far away as ever.

I begin to worry that he is simply an asset for the oligarchs-or worse.
He certainly isn’t rolling the pitch for a Labour win in local elections or a future social democratic government.

Yet no one put one forward so I was a reluctant Remain voter (what the EU did to Greece left a sour taste). Having had a taste of the SM living in N. Ireland, we shd go for that

Damn right. Even "silly" things like having to get passport stamped, only 90 days in last 180. My wife has an Irish passport, which for going from UK to EU and back is a far superior passport than the British one. How is that logical?! Fully agree. Labour needs to make a start towards securing much closer trade ties with Europe sooner rather than later through incremental steps during this Parliament - Trade Agreement, Customs Union, Single Market - then fight the next election on a rejoin platform.
