As I look at it now older not wiser, the subject is 'dead mother' but there is sympathy for as well as disappointment with the mother figure, who is still a young woman. People asked me if she was blind. I did not think so but understood it was a question, as she appears not to be able to see.

Thanks Joanne it feels risky to say some of this -- I was thinking too that accounts of failed and unfinished projects have a historical interest as one's own past merges with the limits of what was possible, personally and culturally (economically too) in a particular time.

Absolutely and maybe there is a melancholy in all this (in my own best sense of that word!). And even just now that’s helped me understand something more clearly about the work I make with Tom.
