it's a really shitty elitism too, because 'meritocracy' means that the elites often feel little to no investment in, or obligation to, some kind of common national project for their position, instead considering it 'earned' by their own excellence.

At the end of the day everything has to be universal to be workable.
It would force people outside of their bubble, while also giving people a more tangible idea of how actual government works.
Too many people think government just takes your money to make you wait in long lines!
