"Why are you so against A.I./LLMs?"
Because I've been dealing with them – against my will, I might add – basically for a year now, and I just don't see what the benefit is supposed to be.

Other stuff, omg so bad. I wanted help outlining a PRF proposal and it was REAL bad. I would ask it to clarify something and it would go “oh yeah you’re right I’m wrong”
But what if I didn’t? What if I was a student asking about a thing? Real bad.
You don’t go to the gym and lift weights because the weights need lifted. You do it to get stronger.
Asking ChatGPT to do critical thinking tasks where the critical thinking is the point is a harmful shortcut (probably most uni assignments)
I just want A.I./LLMs not to be forced into *everything*.
The use of A.I. right now is basically like forcing everyone to buy a car, even if it's impractical for them to own. (I cannot turn it off in the ed tech that I'm using. That means my students are paying for it.)
The quote was from an educational material salesperson when I asked if they had a version without their "new A.I. assistant".
(As an aside, my oldest kid gets Chegg ads on Spotify that tout their new A.I. features. I laughed out loud when I heard that, confusing my kid.)
I find interacting with the models themselves (rather than through an intermediary) to be incredibly useful in technical and non-technical work. 1/n
They perform many other tasks that simplify my workflow. 2/n
Are they perfect? No. But they will keep getting better and they will change the way work gets done. 4/n
Your mileage will vary of course. 5/5
All this tech "just needs some time" or "will eventually be useful" I'm told.
That's great. Can't wait.
*Show* me how well it works. Sell me on the tech and make it something indispensable instead of telling me it's going to change the world any minute now just trust us.
