95% of people saying "We need to be ready to welcome repentant Republicans into the anti-Trump movement" are only doing so because they have fascist friends they'd like to speak to again (it won't work)

A truly repentant person would know never to do it again. These people are just sad their ignorance hurt themselves this time, they will absolutely keep voting for lying monsters who flatter their ego and give them a sockpuppet to hate.
If they actually wanted to help I wouldn't turn another pair of hands with a placard away, but they don't get trust or acceptance. They each have a long way to go to earn any trust back, if they ever can.
At this point no one that leaves MAGA / GOP can be repentant. It's not that they hate what he is doing, they hate that what he did affected them as well. They will totally vote for another Trump, or even a third Trump term if he promises not to hurt them this time.
My only exception would be the women that voted by mail for the first time and were forced to vote for this fascist by their abusive MAGA husbands who don't have a way out. I know that happened to some. Especially after ads pointed out that in person voting was secret.
You might be able to make the argument that they could repent all the way up to Jan 6th. Once people saw that and either didn't leave or joined to vote for him in 2024, those are just fascists. Fuck them. I want nothing to do with them.
a pretty big part of these people's emotional life is the dream of finally winning the argument west wing style at thanksgiving, so they have to keep trying
People can change. I think Trump/Musk are doing a lot of things his base do not support. That's why they use doublespeak and the charade of "peace" talks. And at the moment if we want something from the US government we need to get some Republicans on board.
And like....... who and where are these "repentant Republicans"
They regret voting for Trump because he personally hurt them somehow, I guess, but I've never read about a single one saying "Sorry, I was lied to and I reverse my positions"
This exact thing happened in Trump 1 during the government shutdown! And they probably voted for him again. I will neeeever forget “he’s hurting the wrong people”
My father was a "repented voter" after the first election. He voted for him all 3 times. Any that actually exist are unicorns in a needlestack and I personally refuse to trust ever again, no matter what they do or say
The idea of "welcoming repentant Republicans" is just nonsense anyway because none of them would vote for a Democrat (let alone some new progressive party) even if they had a gun to their head in the voting booth
they also say stuff like “what most of president trump did was good, he was less divisive than obama at least, who was a communist,” and it’s like okay pal, nvm
"I regret voting for Trump" = "Plz don't get mad at me, I am a weakling who cannot deal with criticism and that is what led me down the fascist path in the first place; btw if you ARE mad at me, I'll just get more fascist"
To be fair, there are some who went down that path because they're TOO open to criticism. Like I know people, exclusively men, who started out quite liberal, and basically got "negged" by a bunch of podcasts into "both-sides" thinking that slowly slid further right.
My brother, a 2016 Trump voter, told me he has left the Republican party, saying they've completely lost the plot. He's trying to figure out where he stands politically and I'm trying to scoot him left little by little. He seems sincere and I'm hoping he continues to grow.

What did you vote for then motherfucker?!?!
Not saying you need to talk to them.
Regardless of their repentance.
