Trump didn't really start anything particularly crazy in his first term that actually had legs. His first admin was mostly proposing crazy ideas and failing to carry through. "Everything Trump started" was mostly a few miles of border wall and some tax cuts for the rich

Most of why I enjoyed Lost Stars by Claudia Gray was because it showed the perspective of kids joining the Empire. How it manipulated and gaslit them. Being a young adult book it's not the most in-depth political read and more character driven but I loved that point of view.
