Somewhat tangential, but wouldn’t it be wiser to disentangle VFC from Medicaid? Those vaccines are so important, why do we restrict them from being given outside of the medicaid program?

VFC doesn't restrict vaccines, rather it makes them accessible to those who would not otherwise receive them due to other coverage barriers.

The program can also reduce vaccine purchasing barrier for participating providers/clinics.

I don’t take Medicaid (or any insurance). I am not allowed into VFC. So my Medicaid and no-insurance kids have to go to the health department. So yes, they have it but it is another barrier. The irony of a clinic that is 20% uninsured that can’t use the vaccine program for uninsured.

Another state: VFC told us we were too small to bother with because we didn’t have a high Medicaid %. We ran our VFC through our sister clinic but it meant our staff had to walk 600 yards r/t to get the vaccines. I love VFC. I just think it’d work better if it was focused on vaccinating.
