Now incumbents, the Republicans must defend the fact that things are worse, while the Democrats run on a platform of going back to before when things were better. Important note: things were better before, but they weren't good. Because people are upset, they vote out the incumbent and Dems win.

Dems reverse the policies that the Republicans put in, stopping the bleeding but the damage is done. They are unwilling/unable to do more, bc they can't see that true social growth, not a return to before, is needed. Things stop getting worse, but they don't get better.

Things are still bad. Republicans run on a platform of change, Dems run on a platform of "everything is fine actually." Because things are bad and memories are short, the incumbent loses, and Republicans take power again, reinstating the policies that the Dems undid. Repeat.

This will keep going until we get genuine power in power. The system is broken. Democrats propose no solutions. Republican solutions just make things worse. I'm not sure how this will end, in either system collapse or in progressive victory, but those are the two ways out of the cycle. Pick one.
