The fact that a tiny little wavy feature remains near the part where the curve takes a sharp turn is known as the Gibbs phenomenon. 3/3

For reference, here is the silhouette I used. I cannot find the reference any more; from what I remember, I created it from a profile portrait of Fourier that I had found somewhere.

I need this orientation to make the connection with the usual way we plot functions, with x the independent variable, y the dependent one. It's a choice. But yes, for the visualization alone one could do that.
