The uncountable hours I spent reading and watching political coverage and at the end I had no idea what world I was living in, I just thought I did. If I'd spent that time reading about, say, birds, I would now know an awful lot about an awful lot of birds.

I'm tuning out a lot of political stuff right now, and one filter is that I'm not interested in anyone, from centrist liberal to democratic socialist, who doesn't understand the necessity of building coalitions with people you only semi-agree with. Been mulling this over and it sucks to internalize this, but there are people who heard “mass deportations” and knew what they meant and voted for it because they assumed it would happen to other people and not them. That’s what they voted for: violence happening to other people.
