Natives got accidentally detained by previous immigration sweeps so it logically follows that this is happening again. We're just reporting what the Navajo Nation has reported. We're also searching for Navajo or other Native people who will talk on record about their experiences with ICE.

Just because ICE hasn't started enhanced operations here yet doesn't mean they haven't been doing their job all along. And remember, last time when the county did their sweeps, they swept up lots of Natives there because they didn't do it according to the Constitution.

It's outrageous. The downside of showing law enforcement an ID on your phone is that they can search your phone. ACLU recommends using a code to lock your phone rather than face or fingerprint. Good article.

Good advice. If you believe you will be pulled over on a traffic stop, hide your phone entirely. If it's in view, that could be enough for law enforcement to seize it for whatever reason they can make up. Keep in mind, local law will be "deputized" by the feds. They now have their own rules.
