No, I just think that despite everything 'project 2025' might threaten, he's just going to get stuck in stupid quagmire, after stupid quagmire, after stupid quagmire.
and extreme stuff is going to sap all of the available energy, money and resources from 'everything else'.
So he might actually succeed in screwing things up LESS this time around, than he did last time, - but god help us if we have another global crisis like Covid again ...
It's hard for you because you work in the news media. But for those who don't, the only answer to staying sane is to not watch the news anymore. All you get is doomscrolling these days. Far too many broadcasters and journalists are addicted to it. That, and the constant images of Trump and Musk.
💯
I could not agree more with this. It's a philosophy I've seen from family and friends and I'm adopting it more and more myself.
I really think the 'don't exit the field' argument has had its day. Jan 6th, felony prosecutions etc etc, and here we are again, Trump back in the White House.
Pffft 🤷♂️
I agree that the 24hr cycle is toxic but i kind of feel that a big part of the reason we are in this mess is because too many people have totally disengaged from paying attention. Hence they vote for lunatics like this.
Microtargetting is a psy-ops weapon that's now being used on our civilian populations, and many have no defence from it. When the media then reinforces the lies instead of debunking them, many no longer know what the truth is.
It’s hard work watching or reading the news. You even have to fact check the publicly funded BBC FFS. We should be able to rely on them. Those running it need to be sacked and then we need a new unbiased team in charge. Kuenssberg and her cunty friends should be resigned to writing for The Mail.
Authoritarians start by undermining the capacity of facts, reason, and evidence to restrain them, seeking to convince a determinative segment of the populace to adopt their arbitrary, self-serving definition of reality. The internet (social media particularly) has been a huge gift to them.
Well, if the world moves towards authoritarianism, it could be a lot longer than four years. Trump's corruption of the Supreme Court, state departments and the Republican Party will become embedded and it could take decades to reverse, if the US people even wish it. Feels very Brexity.
And yet in the UK, the mainstream sits idly by while its enemies circle and attack. Lots of hand wringing as usual, but no one with the courage to smash them to pieces.
What’s the point in Labours majority if they’re not going to use it to smother Farage, Musk etc and the idiots that support them?
At least you seem confident that it will be just four years. Trump's promise that the electorate won't have to bother again "because he's fixed it" was perhaps just a joke?
For me one of the most difficult aspects of this is how easily/quickly/readily our political journalists have fallen in line. Really disturbing from bbc news and others.
They should be informing the public, instead they’re sane washing and joining in with the game.
It is different this time, the people around him in his first term restrained him or simply did not carry out his desires.
This will not be the case this time. He will be unbounded. But I think his insanity might be a hindrance.
I hope he dies asap! And I mean that.
That is what worries me. The people around him now, and those he's appointing are, at best, incompetent. But they are all ideological purists. The Gops narrow majorities in both houses is liable to put a brake on passing legislation though.
I’ve been on this earth more than seventy years Ian and sadly, I couldn’t agree more. My biggest concern with Brexit was the inevitable demoralising and desperate drift towards the US and US values. Given recent events, I’m no longer concerned, I’m fearful.
It’s been a rough few weeks. Things seem to be getting more extreme on a daily basis.
This is my last social media platform now. I can’t be dealing with the direction things are going in. It’s back to the people around me day-to-day, for the most part. A tactical retreat for my own mental health.
Look on the bright side: unless something unexpected happens (arguably, he said the US won't have another election ever again...), he will be gone by the time of the next GE in the UK.
I have personally decided to only think about politics one day a week. I will condense all the crap and see which bits of information lasted more than a day. Then I will select just one thing to receive my flying fuck.
He’ll be on the golf course soon enough. He’s a campaigner and the pomp and ceremony only will sustain his vanity for a few months. Once he’s exhausted his doomed to failure revenge attempts and squashed his legal issues he’ll be the lamest of lame ducks. The maga/tech winnets are the concern.
So am I, and in no small part because it is seemingly ok to support genocide deniers in the UK and the US, just because they are the 'lesser of two evils'. Starmer is essentially Major 92, and God alone knows what Harris was. When alternatives disappear, the end game is inevitable.
Only four years? Surely you don't think this is a fixed term disease? I don't expect the world to be back on track again in my lifetime. It takes no time at all to destroy everything, but a very long time to rebuild.
I hear ya. That’s why strong collaborative resistance worldwide is so vital. He’ll be gone in 4 years because he will have done fuck all for the dolts who voted for him, but, still, heartbreaking times for all decent humans.
With JD Sports-Vance lined up behind him, it's hard to see the Repugnicans getting off the train to Crazyville any time soon. Even when nature takes its course with Trump, the course of politics will not change. The only question is whether anyone other than Trump can hold that coalition together.
Exactly.. I still think (hope) the idiots will crumble though when Big Orange Daddy shuffles off to the last barbecue in the sky.. Without his baleful influence not sure they’ll be able to think (hah!) for themselves ?..
They’ll still have an army of weirdos cheering for them. Just look at Brexit - destroyed the country, yet the architects are still on our screens every day, telling us water isn’t wet.
Getting ready for what’s to come and I don’t live in America I tidied my entire wardrobe, now it looks almost neat like the advert but for the crappy clothes.
Or perhaps the noise that trump is making about Greenland / the Panama Canal just a distraction from what are likely to be a bunch of failures against his previously mooted policy objectives.
The BBC website right now. And as terrible as the stabbing in London, the other headlines are society / world altering dreadful. We could well be fucked.

Forty more probably.

Is it ignorance or arrogance?

Better start digging the bunker now.
For Europe : I think the opposite
Many things which should have happened a while ago will be accelerated
But instead of everything getting 3-5% worse year on year, it’s accelerating.
"A Republic, if you can keep it!"
They are still in denial I think…
No American Serviceman /woman is going to lay down their life to take Greenland, no matter HOW Maga they are ...
