I doubt Ukraine can mine these minerals as quickly as Trump wants them bc they have a worker shortage, sites may come under fire and some are in Russian controlled territory. I doubt Ukraine even had enough minerals to fulfill the contract if they retook all their territory.
What do you think will happen when Ukraine becomes delinquent? These contracts usually clauses about penal damages. Ukraine will have to pay fines until they catch up with the integral amount they should have shipped at the point in time at hand.
Thanks. I got tired of reading articles about "peace talks" to "end the war" and how Trump wants to "stop the fighting" so I chose a more accurate description for these negotiations.
If I’m Ukraine I would retrade the deal before signing it. Take it to Germany or all of Europe. Ship it with the Chinese and see what they offer before signing.

Well, the proof is in the pudding, as the saying goes. To state the painfully obvious, if the US side wants a preferential deal on Ukraine's rare earths, they had better be willing to give real benefits to the Ukrainian side this time.
I'm certain Zelensky is aware of this, and he's probably going to put the screws on Trump to demand that the latter honor his commitments - which, of course, Trump will never agree to do, giving Zelensky ample justification to reject whatever comes out of these negotiations.

Hopefully it's for minerals from east of UKR, and US won't get anything until occupied territories are liberated.
Lot of similarities to the US-UK lend lease deal in WW2.
