I've actually been eagerly anticipating what direction the next Pride and Prejudice adaptation would take for years, but now that one's been announced I am just ... over it already.

Yeah. I've actually been looking forward to a new P&P - I know people are tired of Austen adaptations, but we've been going *longer* between versions! But now I expect everything to be half-hearted, derivative nonsense that somehow misses the point of whatever story it's purporting to tell.
The only thing I’ve seen about it is the lead casting and I find it interesting that they’re returning to the 2004 heroin chic vibe. Not that she’s not gorgeous and extremely talented, but if they’re gonna remake it why not do something different?
I think it's because of Persuasion (2022). After Emma (2020) I was very hopeful that the next round of Austen adaptations would have good costuming/sets and a highly ironic tone, which I would love to see in adaptations of the other books, but do I trust anyone now? No.
now that you mention it, an Emma (2020) version of Northanger Abbey, with some kind of heightened/ironic melodrama for the Gothic bits could be fun. :(
oh, yes!!! even moreso with absolutely correct dress but modern language/behavior. or the opposite, I suppose - either Knight's Tale or Romeo + Juliet, for 1803. It could be such fun!
I’ve been saying for years that there should be a moratorium on JA AND the Brontës for a generation, so many other stories including biographies of so many cool women of various times!

A Lizzie with curves? Groundbreaking.
