Yesterday I saw a Post stating that there are 6 things that should be done with Thames Water. However, I don't see the Post now! AFAIK it was not only to renationalise but also to give the shareholders no compensation. I forget the others.
When I click on the Comment icon, I don't generally see previous comments. If there's only 1 Comment, I see it though! Any ideas on how to see all previous Comments?
Also, I'm not even sure that some petitions (e.g. the 2.7 million asking for another General Election now) are signed up to by many Russian bots, since they do not have a human test.
Unfortunately I think that this (as the last government did) will continue to effectively ignore petitions, in that they may be debated but in Westminster Hall (rather than Parliament) so that even if passed they do not become law!
But don't nationalise in such a way we all have to compensate shareholders for a "crapp" job.
They don't deserve anything since they've profited £££ hugely.
Scotland didn't privatise its "Fresh Potable Water Supply" like England did.
Do you all remember that quaint English comedy, about Spain. "Don't drink the water"
Hilarious how 40 years of deregulation has changed things in Angerland.

I've signed because I agree water companies should be renationalised; not because I think there should be more competition. I don't think there should be any competition for water. It is essential to life, a gift that should be collected, cleaned and distributed on behalf of everyone.
The trouble with nationalising is that all that debt becomes our debt and all the cost of repairing the system becomes our cost too. Make the profit gougers pay but don't let them put our bills up.
That's exactly my point: I'm sure Themes would be happy enough to go bust. Say we buy them out for £1, restructured or not, the debt is owed by us as well as the costs of all the repairs.
True and it would be lovely if the debt was just forgotten. Usually, there would be some attempt to sell off any assets of the bankrupt company. Can’t see anyone buying... still leaves us paying for repairs though. Price gougers get away scot free.

The key word here is “gradually”.
The obvious starting point is Thames Water who are bankrupt and hence in breach of their licensing conditions.
Let them go bust, and restructure the debt!

There is no UK water sector.

Thames Water are bankrupt and in breach of their licensing conditions.
Tighten the screw on them, let them go bust, and re-structure the debt.
This is very common in the private sector
