It used to be a decent journal. Years ago I submitted what I felt was good work and it underwent rigorous review. Haven't gone there for years due to the increasingly iffy approach to review.

I've felt the same. You were one of the reviewers on that IB paper -- Failing to see money on a tree. Useful comments and questions. Serious enough questions that I may have cursed you once or twice while working on revisions (as one does). But a better paper because of meaningful review.

I remember that paper Ira! That was a good one, part of our edited collection 10 years ago, which was actually fantastic with all high-quality papers. Shame that the journal went down the drain since!

Yep. You organized a nice set of work. At the time, many of us were hopeful about Frontiers. I think the papers you collected stand as solid work.

Yup, Frontiers is on the "no, I won't let my students submit there" list. I've had two papers in Frontiers journals, but I have a very low opinion of them.

MDPI is "you don't understand the word no" as a publishing group.

I have a similar feeling about one particular impact-blind clearinghouse, which is why I'm sunsetting my editorial work there.

That, and the submission signal to noise ratio is bad.
