It is weird, isn't it? If I stop liking something I just... disengage from those communities. If it's not for me anymore then it's not for me, and I move onto something else.

for me all depends on where the hate is coming from and how its expressed. Its not nice but its still a form of passion.

I dont look favourably on people bringing that hate into spaces where people are praising the game and the standard troglodytes hating on games for some political reason

Oh don't get me wrong, a lot of hate is "valid". It all counts as sentiment. But when you see familiar faces, who are clearly only trying to argue with people who are just trying to enjoy a thing, that's where I'm like "Why are you still here?"

I think some people are so insecure that they can't handle others having a different opinion, so they have to rubbish whatever it is they are talking about like it's some objective fact.

I tend to avoid content that regularly trashes games and films too. It's a hate-grift that sucks in those types.
