The scary part is I used to have some of these but I lived in zone 6. Now I live in zone 10b and sadly none of my favorite black florals will make it down here. I do however have the most ridiculously large giant bird of paradise. Not technically a tree but at 30feet tall, tree adjacent
There’s not a naturally occurring black rose. The closest is Black Baccara or Black magic, both a deep red. The black roses for sale from florists are dyed.
The closest to true black are the petunias, the rest are very dark purples, still quite stunning though!
Black prince tulips are beautiful.
Huh- can't say I've heard of some of these flowers. 🤔 The black rose, definitely heard of. But I thought that was a misnomer- that it's simply so dark a shade of red that it's practically black.
I can vouch for the black rose.
My FiL was an accomplished “rosarian” (a word I had never known existed!). Black and “moss roses” were his particular favs.
Black roses in a garden w bright yellow roses looked surreal.
did you hear about the bioluminescent petunias?
2 local news anchors got no where near pronouncing that (and i actually spelled it correctly first try!)
I have a vampire’s kiss in my garden, black (dark, dark purple) with little red beards. Or at least that’s what I bought it as two years ago, it hasn’t bloomed yet!
There’s an old family story on my
Mums side that a great (or great great) grandfather created the first black rose while working at a stately home. Not sure if it’s true but I’m content not to find out.
