This is one thing that grates me with all the snarky "Year of the Linux desktop" posts. I have been using Linux on desktop for 30 years because and there have been rough periods stuff generally works and I don't have to do huge contortions with basic dev stuff
I enjoyed my linux desktop experience, but now I have too many apps that simply aren't supported. I've flipped to Mac for productivity, but a really short network connection to a powerful linux server for everything else. It's a constant tug of war between apps & dev stuff.
Same. I trust browser sandbox way more than I trust individual developer's security practices. One other thing I discovered for travelling is that a Chromebook tablet with detachable keyboard can be pretty sweet. Small form, Linux "VM" and media apps
