Reading this thread reminded me that I know the names of too many klansmen. The reason I know the names is because they killed Black people and were either acquitted by juries or their prosecutions were delayed by sympathizers until they were elderly.

He is believed to be the last Black person killed by the KKK in 1981 because a Black man was acquitted & the KKK retaliated by randomly selecting Michael to hang.

I was 10 when this murder happened. Listening to adults in my white southern world made me the civil rights activist I am. Even as a child, I couldn’t square their hatred with their church going “Christianity.” In the 60 years since, nothing they’ve said has changed my view of them.

The Montgomery bus boycott started a week before I was born. In Alabama. Shy bookworms are often overlooked and hear everything that’s said by adults who forget they’re there. I doubt they ever tumbled to the fact that I was listening and watching. The 60s were a tense time to grow up.

Justice system takes too long. We need to start doing our own justice. The courts have never been about real justice. Bowers got to live a full life of evil. The good who use courts die young and get no justice. Not my justice system anymore. I cleaned up crime in my neighborhood the right way.
