I would have loved to have been alive to see him play Hildy in The Front Page on Broadway. I’m not knocking Pat O’Brien in the film version but I would really have enjoyed that.

Blessed Event is an underappreciated gem, sort of an action comedy based on gossip columnist Walter Winchell and his associations with gangsters, madams, and bootleggers in the early 1930s. And what a terrific cast. How good is it? So good that notorious scene thief Ned Sparks barely gets noticed.
