There's public support for assisted dying so it may have happened sooner or later. But if it happens now I think Kim Leadbeater will be able to claim much personal credit. A less able, sympathetic and effective champion could easily have put off 30 or so wavering MPs. She'll have a place in history.

Actually working the system to bring about change is hard, as you know.
But its certainly not split the party.
Greens and Lib Dem’s (much more secular parties, at least in MP demography) mostly voted for it. As did the first publicly athiest PM.
Only 1 Ind MP voted for the TIA(EOL) bill.
