What is the benefit of pooling resources? Do you think the large companies involved in this effort already do a good job on this? Genuine questions.

It’s really about standardising online safety tools and open sourcing them - most companies build their own from scratch so it’s very patchy. This aims to be more like fundamental security tools we use like SSL that can be plugged in.

It (theoretically) allows smaller companies and communities access to large scale resources to help them cope with dealing with things like CSAM in the age of genAI. They have some good partners they’re working with too, it’s not just the big companies. I think together they can all do a better job!

The aim is to also shield human moderators from harmful content too, and having worked in online child protection a while back it’s definitely a space where better tools can really help with the human cost
