honestly in this specific case I'm not really sure what you can do. reversing that change by the conservatives seems unlikely given the whole (unnecessary) skittery-ness about immigration in this country. albeit students shouldn't really be counted among immigration figures anyways - ThreadSky

Yeah I mean we should clearly stop doing that. I get that people flap about dependents but I'm really not sure that's an actual issue (also I don't care but that's a different thing).

You probably need to let universities put fees up more and commit to a new fees model.

yeah. putting up fees more without some change in how things work is going to be incredibly unpalatable given that minimum wage is about to be greater than or equal to the point at which you begin repaying student loans

I'm relaxed about immigration but the system was unsustainable, right? Unis were having to take on more and more int'l students to stay afloat because the government didn't fund them enough. Although now we have the worst of both worlds, where int'l numbers are limited AND unis stay underfunded 🙃

it was always kind of a ponzi scheme, yeah. the fact that nobody wants to admit it and actually give them funding because we're broke and unwilling to borrow more is the bigger problem.
