Wow, freight rail electrification. I'm glad that is getting into the conversation because it creates a space beyond the passenger rail v. car discourse. Especially if incentivizing electrification sparks interest in expanding overall rail capacity. Important outside the NEC.

I'm highly doubtful that's gonna happen though. Remember how after the I35W bridge collapse everyone was worried about decrepit bridges and we never addressed that effectively.

Los Angeles to Barstow has a mix of Los of Commuter trains, Amtrak's Surfliner, BNSF freight, and the Southwest Chief on different sections, also Seattle to Portland is another good places for similar reasons
