Gregg is a former Marine and Forest Service ranger. He's saved the lives of hikers dangling off a cliff or going through cardiac arrest, and he's bravely fought forest fires to save small rural towns. 100% of his salary is paid by WA state. Elon fired him. Share his story.

BRENNAN: Do you believe the president has the unilateral authority to cancel funds appropriated by Congress? JOHN CURTIS: We'll find out BRENNAN: You don't have a point of view? CURTIS: I believe this is how we test the Constitution

Can't stop thinking about this from last night's stream. Incredible stuff. Absolutely destroyed us.

Elon, community noted *and* ratioed.

Elon’s busy schedule today is claiming astronauts were left in the ISS for political reasons, getting corrected by an ISS astronaut, throwing a fit where he calls the astronaut a slur, then complaining that we should deorbit the ISS

From a 2022 discussion about how Tolkien had described the elves as having "leaf-shaped" ears but not what *kind* of leaf. 🍁

A Trump-Musk memo telling US government employees to hide what’s happening from the public is a sign that: 1) Public legitimacy is a constraint for them, they know it, and will at times alter their behavior accordingly 2) Reporters should focus on it, revealing more of what they’re trying to hide

CNN with the important questions

@wilwheaton.net completely weird question, but are you by some chance the voice for Epson's automated phone system?

De Blasio: ‘Well, Well, Well, Not So Easy To Find A Mayor That Doesn’t Suck Shit, Huh?’

Just saw a farmer say, "you don't have to admit you were wrong, you have to admit you were lied to, " and idk that seems like a good framing to call people in

Purging dissent in the security services and giving loyalists power is something we *instantly* recognize in other contexts.

a game show where contestants have to accurately catch up a stranger who isn't terminally online about what's been happening in US politics the past 3 weeks without giving the impression they've completely lost touch with reality

Kitties! Too much cute. May this cleanse your feed.

Have you been asked, as a federal worker, to do something you don't want to do? But they won't put it in writing? DON'T DO IT. If they're going to punish you? MAKE THEM PUT IT IN WRITING. ALL OF IT. Document, document, document. Act confused. Be confused! Go slow. Require clarity. Lots. Document

Incredible to think how hard Merrick Garland worked for four years to avoid even the remotest appearance of partisanship or ideological commitments, and literally on her first day as AG Pam Bondi is like "Diversity is now illegal, we will be putting all the libs in prison"

Sharing this from Rt. Rev. Jonathan H. Folts, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of South Dakota. “One of our own priests was targeted at his home—so let no one say, ‘it can’t happen here.’ It can. It has. It is. And rest assured, we will not remain silent or passive in responding.” My heart aches.

We are at the point of the fascist autocoup where the interim US Attorney is replying to an anonymous pro-Nazi account who wants to see someone punished for simply sharing the names of Elon Musk's lackeys who have gotten access to extremely sensitive government data systems.

at least @techdirt.bsky.social is not fucking around

Chad’s right. Yes, most of the stuff said about the DOGE kids is likely protected by the First Amendment, even if “edgy.” But your belief that a USAO won’t charge you with a federal crime for “edgy” stuff is premised on normal times, not this shitshow and not with the hack in charge of the DC USAO.

I'm sorry, but "they took over the whole federal payments system, fired the career staff, and won't let anybody see what they're doing" is not a situation in which you wait for more information. It's a situation in which you assume the worst. There's no explanation for it other than rampant crimes.

the point is not that it's fast -- the point it that it's systematic. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/01/o...

Turns out @shivambhatt.bsky.social and I think alike. That is an incredible comfort to me. Listen to the man, he’s right (about this and all things) ❤️ clips.twitch.tv/PricklyExqui...
