As this WSJ article notes, Elon Musk never had the highest access to classified documents necessary for SpaceX's work for the Pentagon. He would fail to get such access according to procedure. But this is now moot: Trump will be able to grant him anything he likes.

While Musk has a Top Secret clearance (the highest), he doesn't have access to additional, compartmented categories that contain the most sensitive information. This was just as well up till now, given his arrogant chumminess with foreign governments.
Musk, besides raking in billions in increased wealth from the election result, is now set to:
- Have privileged access to v. sensitive nat sec & defence information
- Cement his company's position as a contractor for the U.S. govt
- Benefit from U.S. Secret Service protection & other privileges
Elon Musk can genuinely be referred to as a plutocrat.
And my fear is that he won't be an American equivalent of Lord Beaverbrook - a Canadian-British press magnate, kingmaker, and populist who, when the test came in 1940, genuinely helped the British war effort.
Lord Beaverbrook, for all his faults, made common cause with Winston Churchill, a titan of a statesman.
The United States, sadly, is very far from having anyone of that calibre.
As for Trump, he seems to have more in common with Oswald Mosley than with Winston Churchill.
