Next’s “Too Close” is an example of a great jam that’s hard to play around other people because the lyrics are just too ridiculous. Great baseline, groove, and vocals though, and a Minneapolis group to boot.

I wouldn't categorize the lyrics as ridiculous, I'd say they were just trying too hard (no pun intended) to be clever. They should've just named it The Boner Song.
-People were still people
-Economy was great
-We had technology but it didn’t take over peoples lives
-Music was incredible
-Everyone had such positivity, happiness, & endless optimism for the future
Then the new century came, & everything changed. Sigh
Hard to play around other people because the lyrics are too ridiculous? That song has been getting me action since the 90's lol I wish you were here so I could make you sit through it right now. I'm not gay but if that song was on you'd definitely be feelin' me Aaron 😁
I went out for my 21st birthday and there was a cover group doing this song. They wore gold lamè outfits and did a corny dance. I'll remember it for the rest of my life.
I loved this song when it came out, used to sing it all the time - I was 11, had no idea what they were saying and now I feel embarrassed for my mom having to hear me poorly sing this song.
Aww, my sister and I used to sing this extra loud to my mom while she was driving because she hated it so much (but I think she also found it funny/entertaining because of its ridiculousness). Memories!
My teenage daughter would skip past this song whenever it came up in her playlist when we were driving. I finally made her play it and she was so embarrassed. What a great tune, though.
Some of the Bare Naked Ladies stuff. I saw them in Vegas at the hard rock and boy that party got wild. But their on stage lyrics tend to be a bit different if you know what I mean.
As a nightclub DJ for more than 20 years, I can say with 100% certainty that if you play this for a group of black folks, it will get the party stared. So....are black folks not refined when it comes to music, because this comment makes it sound that way.
I remember back in the day when it was first on the radio and doing a double take thinking I misheard the lyrics 😂. Still love it. And I still giggle most of the time as I often do if I’m listening to these old jams with my kids around. Trying not to song along out loud
