My working theory is that Elon has been bankrolling Trump since last spring, when a huge chunk of Trump’s liquid assets got tied up in bonds while he appealed the civil judgments against him from E. Jean Carroll and the state of New York. The timeline matches up.

Yeah that's what I thought too. Trump is a very wealthy asshole, but most of his money has been tied up legally. Elon musk has an endless ocean of cash at his disposal. That is, so long as he doesn't sieg heil tesla stocks down to nothing.
