All NPO staff have stories of reallocating resources to a useless goose chase because a major donor farted out an idea, plus the hours spent courting that gift... There's no fun project name for "the electric bill" or "paying a living wage to the person who has 15 years of program knowledge."

A central project of MAGA in power has been the creation of spectacles for mass consumption that celebrate the violence of the State being directed against those deemed to be enemies of the regime.

Friendly reminder!!!! Most importantly, if you get arrested or stopped by law enforcement, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!! (with alt text)

It's not manufacturing jobs you want, it's a stable job with a middle-class wage, retirement, affordable health insurance, and worker protections that you want. Which isn't naturally tied to factory jobs, but it is naturally tied to union organizing.

I can say from personal experience that Sec. Bunch is a man of character and scholarship who has been an incredible asset to the Smithsonian and our American story. If Trump intends to strike him down, it is expressly due to Bunch's integrity and history of speaking truth even when it's hard.

So much for bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. 🙄

Maybe everyone can see it now, but the world's richest people have tanked it all to restock assets and get liquid after years of illegally playing with funny money. They used "the wokeness" as a cudgel and it worked. The next Disney princess WILL be white, as we all eat beans under the highway.

A little bright spot this morning... In my head I put this picture directly next to Musk's Naz* salute image. They pair nicely.

"Trump says the Smithsonian rewrite of history 'deepens societal divides and fosters a sense of national shame.' I’m not sure about that but I am sure that he’s responsible for huge waves of national shame today."

A government that values access to information and an informed public would not cut funding that amounts to less than one dollar per taxpayer and ensures said access for underserved communities.

No one tells you before getting an old house that today's "standard sizes" don't mean shit so you're going to spend time either forcing things to fit or finding old hardware on eBay. Obvious in hindsight I guess... also these doorknobs better last 50 years because I never want to deal with it again.

Oh you want Grateful Dead concerts? We have band-sanctioned live recordings from the Dead & hundreds of other musicians, preserved online & available for listening now ➡️ archive.org/details/etree

🧵 Ten reasons authoritarian leaders deliberately crash their own economy while attempting full overthrow of democracy:

A thoughtful thread of the use of hyper feminine styling on the right as a signifier of strength and an ideological shield.

I can't even express the level of personal devastation on this one. I knew it was coming eventually (especially after they came for LOC) but the mourning is deep.

Right wing groups have long seen the military as prime recruiting ground. The new administration's attempts to create homogeny in the armed forces and redefine extremism to remove these ideologies are two sides of the same coin, with predictable and disastrous results.

Just a reminder: having a functional moral compass right now is going to make you feel bad all the time; don’t mistakenly hate yourself for that.

The Trump regime and DOGE are rolling out this playbook to attack Social Security — one of the most popular and effective government programs. They're deliberately sabotaging it by firing SSA workers and cutting services. Why? Because they don't want it to work.

We're going full throttle 1970s kitchen kitch in our new place and I want to embrace slow cooking now that we have some counter space. My "new" crock pot arrived today 🧡💚💛🤎 Also: now taking recommendations for vegan slow cooker recipes!

The vibe I brought to this winter was, unfortunately, "reading Niche on the train" but $87 worth of (vegan) cheese, outrageous single issue medical bills and good old SAD were strong contenders.

The National Archives was born from disaster that proved the fragility of government records. Now, after Trump fired the head archivist in Feb 2025 and top staff left, it faces a new era of uncertainty. An archivist explains: buff.ly/iz9SPAZ Elizabeth Call @rittigers.bsky.social
