It’s usually people like me who speak several other languages. I think the fact that we still understand each other in spite of mistakes is the best part of the net socializing.
Well, it IS confusing in my opinion, particularly since the usual spelling is "marshal" with one L. Let me marshal my evidence. Merriam-Webster says "'marshal' or less commonly 'marshall.'" American Heritage shows only "marshal" and does not mention "marshall."
But as I noted, at least one dictionary accepts "marshall" as an alternative spelling of "marshal." And "Martial" is the name of an ancient Roman satirist and poet, and, to expand on your comment, the 2010 census found 246 Americans with the surname "Martial."
It will only get worse with the GOP closing of Department of Education. They want the dumbing of America to extend beyond MAGA so they can introduce their unconstitutional policies. Vote blue.
That’s right. I took a writing class because I wanted to write a romance novel and the teacher explained that
we needed to write at the 4th grade level so the majority of Americans would understand what they were reading.
LOL
That is fine
You would have a field day with me
Spell check helps
But it takes me a couple of tries sometimes to get close enough to the word
You are welcome to let me know when I do wrong
Thanks
Those in power want the majority of Americans to be uneducated. Knowledge is power. Some with power have little knowledge themselves, but they were handed power.
1/ Spelling aside, it's important people fully grasp what martial law means before Dictator Donny orders it.
Martial law is suspension of civilian law and replacement with military rule in emergencies (fabricated or real). Think of martial arts, a systems of combat training and self-defense.
2/ We cannot depend on lawyers and politicians, we need to stand up & speak out for ourselves in a unified manner.

It makes sense. A marshal is a military leader, martial law is when the streets are militarized. I know the difference but totally see why so many people make that connection instead.

Yeah, yet another spelling...
Marshal = peace officer; highest ranking individual
Marshall = a person's name (given or surname)
I understand there's at least one person with the surname of Martial, BTW.
