Seattle has A city wide program for installing chargers for street parking (although it is still too limited, you have to say that you are buying an E vehicle and apply for the program to get a charger on the street near you)

Most people misread his motivations. He really does not think like the normal human. In almost every case, he's working from first principles. Which can take you to some very weird places. Like, land the reusable rocket, but with no landing legs. In this case, if he sees the tax break is bad... 1/2

...it is bad, regardless the company getting it, even his own company. He'd rather see the entire EV industry do better. And maybe, by sticking to the "eliminate all bad tax breaks" rule, it ends up stripping away more tax breaks for the ICE autos than it does for EVs. 2/2

Not gonna take that bet. This is how oligarchs work, and we know he wants to be one. He'll get exemptions from tariffs for his companies, but his competitors will be hit with them.

That, or 50/50 he honestly doesn't understand tariffs and thinks like Trump does, that the other nations pay them.

It hurts the competition way more than it hurts Tesla. It’ll kill EV production other than Tesla’s. Chinese EVs who could be competition will be kept out of the market by tariffs. All at the expense of our climate.

He likely supports it because Tesla has spent the last 2 decades evolving as an all EV company, so they can be far more competitive if no one else gets that credit. Honestly, shame on Big US Auto for wasting so much time before they got started. (EV Consultant here, not an Elon apologist.)

The way it was originally written, Tesla was the only benefactor. His competitors have only recently been able to adopt the necessary requirements to also be eligible for the rebate. So now that he doesn’t have that price advantage over them- let’s just make the subsidy go away
