This is just a guess, but maybe something is wrong with the cooler? Or maybe a heat sync might not be properly attached to the CPU. Also thermal paste may not have been applied, etc.

I can't say if the cooler isn't proper attached: on a surface level it looks fine, but I am not skilled with tearing it apart so I cannot say.

Same goes for paste: I have to assume it was applied, but I cannot check as it is all below the cooler thingy.

Would be odd. The techs do this every day 🤔

I mean that seems like what makes the most sense to me. That or your fans are properly blowing air, etc. If the cooler isn't properly attached, or something else, long term that could be bad.

What CPU+Cooler do you have? Simple problems are if it came back from maintenance ensure all fans are running, Cooler is obviously positioned and sat correctly (obviously check if their fans are running too.) and if paste as actually been applied

CPU is AMD 7700X, and cooler is a Cougar Poseidon (2 fan version of the one pictured below).

As I understand it, they deep cleaned + paste replacement, but I can't confirm since it means dismantling it and I am no expert.

But temps weren't like this before.

for the 7700x I would honestly say running at 85c is perfectly fine either gaming/browser open but since its not how it use to be + just got maintained then I would argue more on the side of just get a tech to ensure that its sitting correctly + paste is actually there

but ultimately it shows its idle goes go lower so nothing to worry about really if needs be a new cooler can help be it another AIO or Air

I've seen it go to 80C, but that's still way too high, whereas before in BIOS, iirc, it was around 40C-ish.

Oh, and 85C is what I capped it on BIOS. It's normally 95C, but I like my PC to stay cooler so I lowered it. I bet if I unlocked it, it'd stay at 95C, PROCHOT'ing all the time.

If that's the case then I would try lowering/undervolting it more to see if it kinda 'refreshes' itself or if it does go lower mostly so you can rule out that factor
