I made one silly post about Americans not liking Robbie Williams and ABBA on the other place and my phone has been levitating with the notifications ever since for them all to tell me that actually they do know who ABBA are when that is not what I said
Somehow so much worse on here than on stormfront over there. Like at least there the Brits would go straight to something ethnically motivated and weird and then I’d go ahh your shit uncle lost his shins to the ra for nothing it’d be a laugh, here it’s all the most miserable teachers somehow 😭
Too many people on here think "it's a lectern not a podium" is the most useful and essential information to provide uninvited to a stranger. This explains the mindset imo
I think a good share of people who joined here tend to be More Online than a casual Twitter user and engage more, but also often not shitpostery enough to recognise an obvious joke. Fatal.
I do see those but I also see people who are pretending not to recognise a joke so they can be anti-craic and for them - the death penalty (I’m telling them this is why they were kicked out of FBPE insufferable cockwomble twitter)
There is a small but vociferous subset of online Americans that urgently need to be introduced to the concepts of "The Existence Of Other Countries" and "The Ability To Access The Internet There, Too"
Saw a great exchange either here or on X where a UK pub landlord had mentioned a conversation with a drunk 19yo customer only to be told it was illegal in every state to sell alcohol to under 21s. He replied: "But I'm one of the dozens of people who don't live in the USA".
In Rome my son & I were out for a walk at the Curia of Pompey, where Brutus dispatched Caesar on a stone pedestal & were admiring the cats that live in the colony there. Also lots of flowers there (Caesar fans) & overheard 2 Americans "I wonder who leaves the flowers"- the other "must be family".
In Ephesus and the excitement from them when Nike was mentioned as they stood in front of the ancient statue but their fury their was no gift shop like in Disney to buy ! 😱😱😱
Some Brits too. I posted about the HSE and in my replies were a lot of Brits blaming Starmer and complaining about the NHS. Didn't even enter their heads there are other countries. Something similar happened to me with Brexit. I got a deluge of abuse for apparently voting for Brexit.
No, they know Ireland’s there, but many, even well meaning people, have still not grasped that we are a different country. A UK publisher once sent me a stamped addressed envelope so that I could send a marked up manuscript back to them. I had to explain that British stamps did not work in Ireland.

Wtf ...
I'M SORRY, REST-OF-THE-WORLD!
(& I'm afraid it's only going to get worse....)
In fairness, when I told an Austrian guy I lived 'west of Wales', he replied, ' But there's nothing there !'
