There’s protecting yourself to ensure sanity but we can’t disassociate ourselves into oblivion. There are things to be filed away but easily recalled when the opportunity arises. Resistance will be a process.
i don't think the people that are going "holy shit that was a nazi salute" are mostly all that surprised. i think they are saying: i am marking this because it will be denied
I really hope we can collectively decide to leave behind the tendency to read "this person is commenting on an obvious thing" as "this person is noticing the thing for the very first time ever" or it's gonna be a long, long coupla years
We all know full well that every mush mouthed, openly shitbrained asshole is going to go "No it wasn't :)" and it feels like at least going yeah?? it fucking was??? be dense or just be brave about being an ass, c'mon now
i am not sure there is a framework yet for saying: yes, i saw that too. the news will deny it and the fascists will deny it but we know what we saw. we know what it meant. so sometimes people fall back on the language of shock and outrage.
i was going to post something snarky about the "you shouldn't be surprised" people but they are just exhausted. they have been ringing this bell and being ignored for years. give them some grace too
