My Mom was a keypunch operator sometime before getting married in 1946. As you can see, it was women who largely did this job. Women have played an important role in history. When the men were off at war the women held things together back at home.

COBOL was not a wrong at the time.

It was a hell of a lot better than learning the instruction sets of each (totally incompatible with each other) computer system, and it resembles plain English so a computer could be programmed by the people that use it, not the engineers that designed it.
