Very difficult if not impossible to beat back Ceanothus in a situation like this. You can knock it back some immediately around infrastructure, but it's going to proliferate no matter what is done. Plus ecologically, it's an important part of recovery.

Problem is if the fire comes back before it gets shaded out, like it did in the 2009Lockheed Footprint. Not at all advocating for landscape scale removal of blue blossom, but there are situations where it’s important… like post fire planting, around homes, legacy trees, and other cultural resources.

Time of year of removal seems to be the main driver of whether or not it resprouts rapidly, with Fall being observationally efficacious. A good option to reduce fuels around some amazing trees.

My initial comment was 'you can knock it back some immediately around infrastructure'. Strategic removals may be warranted on a case-by-case basis. Like it or not, no matter what we do or don't do, there will be elevated fire hazard in areas like this for 10-20 yrs.

The seedbank is stocked w/propagules of fire followers, waiting many decades for an event like CZU. Even a lower intensity fire would trigger some germination. It is very flammable -- these sites will have elevated fire hazard for ~20+ yrs until the canopy fills out again.
